Physical and mechanical properties of Grevillea robusta procured from Institute of Wood Science and Technology campus, Bangalore were evaluated. Hardness and nail holding power are maximum in basal portion. Variation are found significant with height for sp.gr.,FS at LP and MCS in green condition. Based on the strength properties, the timber is classified as moderately heavy, moderately strong, not tough, moderately steady and soft. The timber is classified as group III constructional timber. It may be used for door shutters and frames, joinery, furniture, decorative veneers, turnery and packing cases.- Studies on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Coconut Wood (Cocos nucifera Linn.)

Coconut wood from non-productive plantations is a by-product of an agricultural crop and constitutes a renewable resource which may serve as a complement to, or at least in part. As a substitute for traditional timbers in local markets. It more extensive utilisation is expected to contribute to the conservation of natural forests. On evaluating its physical and mechanical properties, the wood having density more than 0.5 is classified as tough, very hard, very strong and very heavy timber. Based on suitability indices it is found suitable for tool handles (Group I), wood poles (Group II), construction (Group II) specially for roofingand load bearing components and door, window, shutters and frames.- Studies on the Effect of Preservatives on the Nail-holding Power of Timbers

It is found that treatment of timbers with Ascu and a mixture of creosote and furnace oil (1:1) generally does not affect their natural nail-holding power, though treatment with creosote alone may sometimes bring about a slight increase in the strength property. Results of experiments with 12 species of timbers of Southern India have been given.- A Note on the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Protium Serratum from Andhra Pradesh
